The area where Katy now stands was originally known as Cane Island in the late 1800s. This was the name of the creek that flowed through the center of the settlement.
The stream and drainage area is officially the Cane Island Branch of Buffalo Bayou. Cane Island Creek borders part of the east side of the property. It was only natural that this project be named Cane Island to commemorate the history of the area. The name and logo sign marks are officially registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
