Safe & Secure

The Police Department consists of sworn officers and civilian / communication employees. Included is a criminal investigation division; crime prevention officers; K-9 partners trained in drug detection, tracking and criminal apprehension. The department also has a Motorcycle Division and Animal Control Division.

The Department is also involved in community Crime Prevention Programs. These include Vacation Watch, Child Fingerprinting, Gun Safety, Bicycle Safety, Stranger Safety and other programs. There is also a Bicycle registration program and guided tours of the Police Station are conducted on an almost weekly basis during the school year.


The Fire Department
Provides firefighting, fire protection and rescue services and trained emergency medical personnel to operate an emergency ambulance service. Fire Station No. 1 at 14l7 Avenue D is filled with the most up-to-date fire and emergency apparatus, such as Class A pumpers, ladder, heavy rescue and booster trucks, ambulances, a mass casualty vehicle, all types of firefighting, lifesaving and rescue equipment, and specialized safety gear for the firefighters. 


Fire Safety Training Trailer
A Fire Safety Training Trailer donated by the Katy Volunteer Firefighters Association promotes safety training for children in the community. Real-life scenarios let children experience and learn from simulated dangers in a safe, controlled environment. 


Disaster Response Trailer 
A fully equipped, multi-response Disaster Response Trailer has the capability to respond to a multiple casualty incident, an incident where decontamination of large number of victims may be required, at long-term standby scenarios and similar situations. 


Emergency Medical Service (EMS)
Paramedics in a Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) with excellent response times and trained in the latest CPR, trauma care, bio-terrorism, hazardous materials, disaster response, and SWAT medic techniques, provide quality emergency, pre-hospital care, supported by state-of-the-art equipment, including advanced cardiac monitoring and airway management and fetal monitoring capability, with the capacity to fax to the hospital Emergency Room or physician. Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) are located in ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, various City buildings and Katy Mills Mall, providing a valuable link in the Chain of Survival and substantially increasing survivability.
